She provides primary care / Internal Medicine\, with a focus on Lifestyle Medicine and Obesity Medicine. \nShe completed medical school from Christian Medical College\, Ludhiana\, India. She has been practicing Internal Medicine and primary care since 1998. Her clinical interests include management of obesity and its related conditions and utilizing lifestyle changes to accomplish this. In furthering these interests\, she recently became Board certified in Lifestyle Medicine. \nShe has completed a Plant Based Nutrition certificate from eCornell Center for Nutrition Studies with Dr. T. Colin Campbell. This proven approach enables participants to make fundamental lifestyle changes and lowers key risk factors within 12 weeks. \nShe has been Featured by MamaSezz.com\, a Whole Food plant-based Meal delivery Service \nShe is a speaker for the Nonprofit\, Indian Circle of caring\, in Massachusetts\, speaking about Chronic lifestyle disease and diet in South Asian people. \nShe has also partnered with the Nonprofit Jivinii research foundation that is a qualitative research program focused on low-income women and women of color in underserved contexts exploring the relationship between their food choices and resilience\, and triggers and barriers against healthy lifestyle changes \nThe research project GAIA is still underway\, but it was conducted to explore people’s food choices and impact on severity of COVID-19. \nDr. Merchia is a lifelong vegetarian and has started a plant-based diet since mid-2020. She has a keen interest in cooking and creating recipes. One of her recipes was featured in the CHEF coaching Newsletter of the institute of lifestyle medicine at Harvard Medical School.
